Broken Glass Body serves to remind us of how women were popularly depicted and exploited within western fashion advertising throughout most of the 21st century. Using collage as a feminist strategy, I embellish these advertisements that encourage sexual violence, voyereuism, and objectification in order to communicate my conflicting feelings about disturbing representations of sexuality within popular media.

Although this project is designed to resonate with everyone, it particularly speaks to the millennial women who were the targeted consumer demographic during the height of this advertising strategy. By appropriating these images within my work, I intend to instill a moment of gratitude into my audience; although there is still much to be done, the progress of female representation within fashion advertising is remarkable compared to the photos I present in my work.
